Every year the same thing happens. We look at the top of the class, assume the highest ranked freshmen will be the most productive freshmen, and every year the list of actual leaders looks a little different than the recruiting board.
The reason is simple. Freshman production is talent multiplied by opportunity, and opportunity is not evenly handed out. A top five prospect who lands on a veteran roster may come off the bench. A slightly lower ranked player who walks into thirty minutes and a green light will put up numbers that make him look like the better prospect, even when he is not.
